World needs to hear voice of Caspian, Mikheyev says
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaSergey Mikheyev, deputy head of the Editorial Council of Vestnik Kavkaza, the director general of the Institute for Caspian Cooperation, said at a conference titled “Caspian - our common information space” that it was important for the world to hear the voice of the Caspian Region. He accused Western media of pursuing their own interests. The analyst emphasized that Caspian countries should develop their own information space and deliver information to the West and other parts of the world.
Mikheyev proposed the creation of a new technological format for realization of the goal: an information agency or a cooperation publishing magazines in the West. He clarified that the goal was especially realizable in the light of the progress achieved at the latest summit of Caspian states in Astrakhan.
In his opinion, resolving the disputes over the borders of the Caspian would be even more complicated and would hopefully end in 2-3 years. Their success would be a serious breakthrough, compared with the past 20 years.
The expert noted that militarization of the Caspian Sea was partly a result of poor coordination in the region. The more Caspian states cooperate, the less they will need to show strength, he believes. On the other hand, admitted Mikheyev, the sea was an object of excessive interest from third parties.
