Does the West want to ruin Russia?

In the context of the situation in Ukraine, relations between Russia and NATO became tense. Many programs on cooperation and dialogue platforms were cancelled. However, the history of relations between Russia and the Alliance makes us state that the situation was predetermined decades ago.
Konstantin Sivkov, the President of the Academy of Geopolitical Problems, thinks that the current events are consequences of Western attempts to achieve their long-term geopolitical goal of weakening and capturing of Russia: “NATO is a key, deep, genetic enemy of Russia… In the late 20th century, major Western geopoliticians, Anglo-Saxon geopoliticians declared the goal of establishing a world empire. According to them, the goal could be reached only through establishing control over Russia.”
Sivkov is sure that “tsarist Russia collapsed not due to the Bolsheviks, but due to the pro-Western liberal bourgeoisie and the military commanders who were connected with it. They were supported by British intelligence services and diplomacy. Thus, before the Soviet Union and socialism, the Anglo-Saxons fought against the Entente ally with soft power. Of course they fought against the Soviet Union, and from 1946 the West began to build the iron curtain.”
The current situation reminds Sivkov of 1946: “There is an attempt to confirm the results of the dissolution of the Soviet Union; they are taking measures to justify the accession of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine to NATO. And various reasons are being sought for this. To solve the task, they need to make a monster out of Russia, state that it is “an empire of evil,” build an iron curtain again. And they are doing it eagerly.”
According to Sergei Bolshakov, the professor of the Foreign Affairs Department at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, constructive dialogue between Russia and the USA was encouraged by the unprofessionalism of the majority of Western politicians. Bolshakov sees former experts who “knew Soviet or Russian history well. Even though they were anti-Communists, they knew what Russia, the USSR, the Russian Empire were and could use certain categories. I mean Kissinger, Brzezinski… At the moment Washington experts cannot soberly assess a situation which was caused by certain circles of the American establishment.”
Bolshakov thinks that blindly following Washington’s recommendations could lead to disastrous consequences for Europe: “We are all members of the WTO, the united economic global space; and if the EU and its major economies (Germany is the first economy of Europe) blindly follow the USA, they will ruin their economies and the integration model which they have been establishing since 1951.”
Bolshakov states that the USA and Europe’s activities are “a blind desire to ruin Russia, prevent its economic growth, create a black hole on its eastern border.” According to the expert, “after a recent speech by Angela Merkel, the Foreign Minister of Germany Steinmeier openly said: “Mrs. Chancellor, there are certain limits. We should make up our mind. We cannot ruin Russia as an economic power.”
