Russian Drama Theater in Uzbekistan marks 80th anniversary
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe Academic Russian Drama Theater in Uzbekistan has marked its 80th anniversary in Tashkent. The head of Rossotrudnichestvo in Uzbekistan, Victor Shulik, emphasized the role of the theater in cooperation of Russian and Uzbek actors, RIA Novosti reports.
Artists received awards from the Russian Science and Culture Center in Tashkent for serving Russian culture.
The Russian Drama Theater in Tashkent opened with Lev Slavin's play "The Intervention" on October 21, 1934. It became an academic theater in 1967 for its contribution to the theatrical arts. Vladimir Shapiro, the head of the theater collective received the Alexander Pushkin Medal in 2009 for his contribution to Uzbek-Russian cooperation.
