The decapitated body of a leader of the terrorist group Islamic State (IS) has been found in the east of Syria, Reuters reports with reference to the human rights organization Syrian Observatory of Human Rights.

The victim was acting deputy head of the religious police of IS in Syria - a unit which carries out beheadings. A cigarette (the religious police of IS prohibit smoking) was left stuffed in his mouth with a note saying: "This is evil," RIA Novosti reports.

"We do not know who killed him - IS, locals or other fighters," the head of the Syrian Observatory said. "Nevertheless, it is important because he was a very powerful man." According to the human rights group, it is the first time that a representative of the IS Police has been killed in this way.

In December it was announced that the terrorist organization Islamic State had executed 100 foreign citizens who had fought on their side and tried to leave the ranks of the group.
