Readers and ruling elites in the CIS are tired of human rights rhetoric by Western politicians who present it as a state ideology. It doesn’t mean post-Soviet citizens don’t accept Western ideals of human rights. This is not true. Any transformational society strives to establish the rule of law in its state. However, it is difficult to trust Western politicians who state that they are “deeply concerned” about the arrest of the girls from “Pussy Riot” and close their eyes to Nazi marches of the Right Sector in Kiev, who are indignant about the arrests of human right activists in Azerbaijan, but hush up the awful situation over millions refugees who were expelled from homeland. When such politicians ignore violent and unpunished murders of black residents of the U.S. by the police, but they attentively follow cases of violence by the police in countries which are independent from Western policy, their statements turn into empty words in the targeted countries. The question is: what are the true reasons for these people’s activities?

One such politician is a German MP from the Greens, Marieluise Beck. She always criticizes “unwanted” post-Soviet countries, but she never dares to criticize the U.S., even though this country has nothing in common with the pacific and ecological principles of the Greens. Our editorial paid attention to an article which was published in a German blog. Considering it is based on serious facts, we decided to present it to our readers. The original publication is http://spiegelkabinett-blog.blogspot.de/

The article speaks about the seduction of certain German politicians by the U.S., so that they would publicly represent and defend American interests. It is quite logical that the Americans attract politicians who are difficult to believe that they are on the American side. And the example of Marieluise Beck from the Alliance '90/Greens is indicative.

On October 1-4 Marieluise Beck was visiting Washington. She participated in the U.S.-Central Europe Strategic Forum, which was organized by the Center of Policy Analysis (CEPA). It took place in the hotel of the Willard Inter Continental on October 2-3. The hotel was built in the 1850s in two quarters from the White House. It is one of the first buildings on the square. All tge presidents of the U.S. since Franklin Pierce in 1853 stayed there. Many important state officials who come to the U.S.A. regularly choose it for their stay. The last four American presidents - George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama organized evenings devoted to their inauguration there.

A former school teacher, Marieluise Beck was also invited to the hotel. She was the only German MP among 300 American and international participants. A special bonus for the German was the fact that she was allowed to take Christian Semmler, an employee of her Berlin bureau, with her. It seems the man is used by the U.S. for more serious tasks in the Greens group.

However, it was not only Marieluise Beck and her employee Christian Semmler who were invited by the Americans. There was also Charlotte Beck (she is not a relative of Marieluise) who represented the Heinrich Böll Foundation, a party institution of the Greens.

The fact raises a lot of questions to an independent observer. Only three representatives of the German parliament and politicians were invited to the forum; and all of them belong to the smallest opposition party of the Greens. Moreover, these three people don’t make any decisions even in their own party, being secondary, third-rate, and fourth-rate managers. What is the logic? What is the point of feeding politicians who don’t play a significant role even in their own party?

Apparently this is a personal award for Marieluise Beck, who follows the political course of American neo-conservatives toward Russia and people in Ukraine. The U.S. is ready to open the doors to their comfortable and warm apartments for people who are nice enough like Marieluise Beck and some other leaders of the Greens, who don’t care about the consequences of their own activities, who are indifferent to the pain and suffering of other people, and who think about themselves only. Marieluise Beck is a welcome guest on German talk-shows. She is glad to give numerous interviews to Deutschlandfunk and Deutschlandradio. And she has close contacts with Russian and Ukrainian groups which are connected with the U.S.A.

The drawing card of the conference “Reviving Atlanticism in Central Europe: Perils and Possibilities” was Victoria Nuland, the aide for European and Eurasian Affairs of the U.S. Secretary of State. She became well-known in Europe due to her scandalous statement “Fuck the EU.” Marieluise Beck is content about the fact that Nuland doesn’t hide that she organized bribery of people in Ukraine ($5 billion) to overthrow the authorities in the poor country. The money could have been useful if it was invested in the country’s development, rather than distributed between rich oligarchs who paid soldiers of fortune with it.

About 100 European guests met almost 200 American colleagues attended in the conference. 14 employees of the Department of the State, 9 employees of the Defense Department and 6 representatives of the National Endowment for Democracy, one of the main instruments of overthrowing regimes in other countries by the American government, participated in it.

The event called “Reviving Atlanticism in Central Europe: Perils and Possibilities” was sponsored by Chevron, an energy giant which competes with Vladimir Putin, and weapon producers: Bell Helicopter, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon (they produce Patriot missile defense systems), Textron Systems, Boeing, and Sikorsky. The lobbying company of LNG Allies, which deals with fracking gas exploration and export of liquefied gas to Europe, was also one of the sponsors.

Obviously, Marieluise Beck is glad to play the role of a decorative accessory for American weapon producers who try to push Europe into war and increase the volumes of their trade turnover. What other reason could there be for organizing such an expensive event by companies which earn money by producing weapons? At least it is a preparation for a military adventure in Europe. Such a scenario would demand massive arming of European partners in NATO.

Thus, the initiators of the conference were generous with the horrible descriptions in the invitations. They spoke about “the most dangerous crisis of European security in recent decades,” about “Russia’s attack on Ukraine” which led to “a heavy load for the Atlantic alliance.” The Kremlin provides “anti-Western revenge-seeking policy, which puts at risk the whole system of European security.” At the same time, Moscow uses a “surprisingly successful strategy, which includes components of military force, propaganda, economic pressure, diplomacy, and subversion.” On the other hand, the West turned out to be “absolutely not ready for the new era of geopolitical competition.” Insufficient “investments of allies into the military sphere” led to “unbalanced military load on the U.S.” And some “front states of the Western alliance” (apparently they meant the Baltic States - VK) fear that Western Europe won’t be ready to resist Russia.

So, 10 of the represented companies (by the way, almost all of them were American) were direct producers of weapons. Another big group of companies represented the energy sphere. The biggest of them were Chevron. We should note that Chevron is very interested in pro-Western attitudes in Ukraine and the overthrow of the authorities in Russia. The company produces shale gas, including on the territory of Poland. In 2013 Chevron signed an agreement on production of shale gas in Ukraine. The contract costs about $10 billion. The question is: what was a German MP from the Greens doing at a conference where American companies lobbied for their own interests on fracking extraction of gas? The Greens actively stand for protection of the environment in Germany and stand against defracking extraction of gas. Another mystery of Marieluise Beck: why did she sit next to uranium producers from Fairwood Peninsula Energy, the company which lobbied for construction of a new NPP as an alternative to Russian gas? The Greens have to answer these questions, as trust in their party is at risk.

Along with weapon producers and energy companies, who were interested in the Ukrainian crisis, there were many representatives of consulting and juridical companies at the conference. They are preparing for the privatization of Ukraine, when their services would be in demand – to provide deals and develop agreements in the interests of international companies. Non-governmental organizations were numerous at the conference as well. This is another pillar (along with military and economic pressure) of the American Empire. Most of them are very conservative and close to American neo-conservative circles. Guests of the conference included representatives of such NGOs as: the Heritage Foundation (a thinktank whose motto is “America’s Leadership”), the Hudson Institute (the conservative thinktank which deals with U.S. national security), the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs (the former CIA Director James Schlesinger is the head of its supervisory board), the Сentral and East European Coalition (a strictly anti-Russian organization which has roots in Eastern Europe and demands exports of weapons to Ukraine), the Сenter for Strategic Budgetary Assessments (deals only with military consulting), the John Hopkins SAIS and RAND (a thinktank which was founded after the Second World War for consulting the U.S. army), the Open Society Foundation (a group of foundations financed by George Soros which pays for overthrowing unwanted regimes in Eastern Europe, often providing for the financial interests of Soros himself), the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (according to information from its official website, it stands for “improvement of the U.S. leading role in the world through strategic investments in development of diplomacy”), the McCain Institute for International Leadership ( a conservative thinktank under the University of Arizona), Foreing Policy Initiative (a neo-conservative thinktank which stands for the expansion of American missile defense systems, military operations in Iran and Syria). The list could be endless.

The U.S. has a subgovernmental layer of the so-called transatlantic communities which work all over the world and build contacts with ruling elites, countries in the sphere of policy, economy, and the mass media. Transatlantic programs provide young, enthusiastic, ambitious people with an opportunity to make contact with the most powerful people in the world.

Another example of attraction of further managers to the American side from their early ages is American universities. This is the most important component of American society. Often the universities are not public, but private institutes. For example, Georgetown University is the largest private university in the USA, about 54 thousand students study there, 6700 professors work there, its capital is $3 billion. Texas University involves 50 thousand students, 2.5 thousand professors, and $1.7 billion. George Washington University doesn’t fall behind either (24.5 thousand students, 2 thousand professors, and $1.5 billion). Of course, such sums cannot be collected from public investments. The money is allocated by leading families of the country and their companies. Moreover, along with freedom from taxes of accumulated money in the funds, richest American families influence the educational programs of the universities. The theory and practice of modern socialism are not included in them.

Apparently, the meeting in Washington to which Marieluise Beck was invited was held, according to a certain course. Everything was focused on the expansion and improvement of tge hegemony of the U.S. in Central and Eastern Europe. And when Mrs. Beck starts telling us about democracy, human rights and freedom in Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and Russia, we should remember this fact. The statements by Marieluise Beck are synonyms of the U.S. claims to world leadership, using the plundering of valuable resources in these countries.
