The President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, and the EU Special
Representative to the South Caucasus, Ambassador Peter Semneby,
emphasized the need to ensure continuity of the negotiations on the
EU-Armenia Association at their meeting on Friday in Yerevan, reports
NewsArmenia, with reference to the presidential press service.
On October 12 the second phase of negotiations on an association
agreement between the EU and Armenia will start in Brussels. The
Association Agreement will replace existing agreements on partnership
and cooperation. The basic document regulating cooperation between
Armenia and the EU entered into force in July 1999 and lasted for ten
years.
During the meeting Serzh Sargsyan and Semneby exchanged views on
regional issues, including the current stage of negotiations on
settling the Karabakh conflict. In this regard, Semneby noted that the
EU is concerned about the increasing number of incidents on the
Azeri-Karabakh contact line.
