The chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Konstantin Kosachev, has called for a stop to the race of "demonization" of the images of opponents in relations between Russia and the West, and begin to solve real problems.

Current relations between Russia and the West, according to the MP, are very different from the period of the "Cold War" of the USSR and the USA, where there was an ideological opposition.

"The key issue is that the current opponents are not so much opposed to the real country, people and values as to their image in mainstream media," wrote Kosachov in an article published in Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

According to him, in history the media has never played such a role not only in domestic affairs, but also in the international arena.

"It is necessary, first of all, to stop the race of "demonization", inflating the image of the enemy and the substitution of the real nations and peoples with media monsters, the horror of which justifies any action, including military ones," emphasizes Kosachev.
