Shoigu: Iran shares Russia's views on Afghanistan
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaMoscow's and Tehran's opinions on the situation in the Middle East and Afghanistan are similar in many points, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said after talks with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Dehghani.
"We exchanged views on a number of topical issues of international and regional security. First of all, it concerns the situation in the Middle East and Afghanistan. In many ways, our assessments of the situation are similar or identical," RIA Novosti cited Shoigu.
Russia and Iran believe it is necessary to give full attention to the coordination of efforts in the fight against global terrorism and drug trafficking, which has increased several times over in Afghanistan over the past decade.
"We consider the reduction of tension in the region of our responsibility as one of the top priorities. I hope for our further close cooperation," Shoigu concluded.
