Combat potential of Russia's South Military District to be doubled

The combat potential of the newly formed South Military District will be doubled by joining all forces and materials located in the region, declared Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdykov at a Military Defense meeting in Rostov-on-Don.

The new district was established within the borders of the North Caucasian Military District, RIA Novosti reports.

According to the minister, the possibility of conflicts in the region is still high. The purpose of the new formation is to support the war against terrorism and to prevent Georgia from aggression against Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
