The US Senate has passed the Keystone XL pipeline approval bill.

The Senate voted 62 to 32. 9 Democrats joined with 53 Republicans.

Earlier this month, the initiative was supported by members of the House of Representatives.

The White House said earlier on Thursday that US President Barack Obama will veto the controversial project, which according to activists' claims will have a negative effect on the environment. If Obama keeps his word, the proponents of the pipeline will have to find at least another 5 associates.
