Thousands of British Muslims protested against cartoons of Mohammed in the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, in a demonstration near the office of the Prime Minister.

The crowd marched to Downing Street holding signs and shouting slogans on the inadmissibility of insulting the Prophet.

Speakers addressed the protest and held communal prayers, before representatives delivered a petition to Cameron’s office signed by over 100,000 British Muslims.

The petition describes cartoons of Mohammed as an affront to the norms of civilised society, Tass reported.

Sheik Tauqir Ishaq, a senior spokesman for Muslim Action Forum, said that "perpetual mistakes by extremists, either by cold-blooded killers or uncivilised expressionists, cannot be the way forward for a civilised society. The peace-loving majority of people must become vociferous in promoting global civility and responsible debate."
