After the execution of Egyptian Coptic Christians who worked in Libya, terrorists of Islamic State have burned 45 people to death in the Western Iraqi town of al-Baghdadi. According to BBC, citing the local police head, Colonel Kasim al Obeidi, some of these people were officers of the security services. ISIS terrorists occupied most of al-Baghdadi last week. Now they are mopping up houses of employees of the law-enforcement agencies and security services. The international community is not able to cope with ISIS.

For eight months the activities of the coalition headed by the USA have been going on against Islamic State, while the “caliphate” is spreading its influence and strengthening its positions. Veniamin Popov, the Director of the Center of Partnership of Civilizations of the International Studies Institute, thinks that “in Iraq and Syria the positions of ISIS are not weakening. They are tough nuts. They really want to establish the caliphate. Last year “caliph” Ibrahim (the leader of ISIS Ibrahim Avaad Ibrahim Ali al-Badri) established special councils for three directions – Algeria, Sinai and Libya. In Libya they have already carried out several operations – they captured the hotel of Corinthia in Tripoli, and killed a French and an American there. Then they killed several journalists, tried to capture the oil field of Mabruk. However, it didn’t cause a wide resonance. And then they decided to commit some massive outrage to draw attention and show their capacities.”

According to Popov, the establishment of ISIS and spread of the terrorist threat in the region are a direct consequence of the policy provided by Western powers, primarily the United States. It is a new stage of spreading radicalism. “Boko Haram has intensified its activity in Nigeria and is occupying new territories. They are threatening Chad, Cameroon, and so on. Recently two Libyans came; they criticized France heavily. They said that the French were initiators of bombings, because the French were interested in the uranium fields which are situated in Chad and on the border with Libya. 70% of the electricity power of France is produced by nuclear power stations,” Popov says.

However, he believes that the Europeans play an assistant role for the Americans who “benefit from the tension to control the region and their allies, as the Europeans and many Asians import a lot of oil from the region. It is a great opportunity to manipulate the allies.”

Popov is surprised at the shortsightedness of European leaders: “What are they looking at? Don’t they understand? An ill wind blows through their home. They cannot defend themselves. Trying to separate Ukraine from Russia, they missed the spread of extremism, when a fire started in their own house. And it is difficult to say what the end will be.”
