Richard Kessler: Nagorno-Karabakh has an atmosphere of doom
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaPolitical analyst and journalist, former Spiegel correspondent Richard Kessler, shared his memories of a trip to Nagorno-Karabakh, speaking at a symposium on security and stability in the South Caucasus.
In particular, he also visited Khojaly, where Armenian troops committed genocide of the Azerbaijani population. "I've been in this city, Khojaly ... I can only say that it is an extremely sad, devastating sight. Everywhere there are traces of destruction, among which you can find Armenians settled in the city. I had the opportunity to ask questions to some of them about the Khojaly tragedy," Kessler said.
"Either they do not want to know or hear about it, or they enthusiastically claimed that Azerbaijanis fired on the Azerbaijani army, absolutely distorting the real story," the German publicist said.
"If you go further, to Shusha, there you will see an abandoned mosque, ruined libraries. I do not see any positive economic movement in Nagorno-Karabakh. Nobody invests in that region: The Armenians have no money for that, Russia also does not interfere in this question," the analyst said.
"Nagorno-Karabakh is a beautiful region and to me, as a German, it reminds me of landscapes of the Black Forest. But that place has an atmosphere of doom," Richard Kessler summed up.
