New circus prize to be awarded in Sochi in June

The director general of the Russian State Circus Company, Vadim Gagloyev, said that the first Master Prize for circus art will become a new annual award. The first award ceremony will be held in Sochi on June 27-30. The ceremony includes a gala concert, theater and circus performances, charity events, master classes, RIA Novosti reports. 

The prize was created by sponsors. Gagloyev expressed hope that it would become a self-sufficient award in 3-5 years. 

Professionals and amateurs may file bids for the award on March 25 – May 1, according to the deputy director general of the State Circus Company, Oleg Chesnokov. The categories include Circus Show of the Year, Attraction of the Year, Performance of the Year, Artist of the Year, Director of the Year and Tamer of the Year. 

13 professionals from Russia, the US, China, Spain, Australia, Hungary and Brazil will select winners among 5 competitors in each nomination. The laureate of the Legend Nomination will be declared earlier.
