Ban Ki-moon condemns destruction of Nimrud by ISIS militantsThe UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has condemned the destruction of the remains of the town of Nimrud by militants of the terrorist organization "Islamic State". The town was located in the present day Iraq and was founded in the 13th century century BCE."The deliberate destruction of our common cultural heritage is a war crime and a blow to the whole of humanity," RIA Novosti quotes him as saying.The UN chief also appealed to politicians and religious leaders of the Middle East to condemn this act and stop the systematic destruction of cultural monuments, as well as illegal trade of historical objects.
