Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili has instructed Cabinet members to improve to the utmost the social conditions of residents of villages neighboring South Ossetia and Abkhazia at a meeting with the Georgian Minister of Agriculture, the head of the Environment Ministry and the Governor of the Shida Kartli region, Trend reports.

During the meeting it became clear that the irrigation problem in the seven villages bordering the occupied zone still remains, but there is a draft project which aims to solve the issue by next spring. Part of the allocated zone for firewood remains in occupied territory, and therefore new forest zones have been allocated for these needs and the population will get firewood in a month.

Mikheil Saakashvili noted that Nikozi and other nearby villages have suffered major damage and that social programs should be made particularly efficient in these villages.
