Welcoming the visit of the governor to the See of the Holy Etchmiadzin, Karekin II recalled his visit to Deir ez-Zor in 2001. "Speaking about the friendship between the Armenian and Arab peoples, the Catholicos of All Armenians with gratitude referred to the caring attitude of the people and of the authorities of Syria towards Armenians," says the report.
