The Iranian embassy in Moscow hosted a meeting of Russian journalists with Kamal Kharrazi, who was the head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry in 1997-2005.

The diplomat told Vestnik Kavkaza that Russia and Iran can work together to contribute to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. "Iran and Russia are neighbors, we share many common interests. Cooperation between Iran and Russia in resolving the South Caucasus problems is the natural right of the two countries. The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan has been going on for many years, and we must exert regional forces to resolve it. Given the fact that Iran and Russia have great potential, they can help resolve this problem," Kharrazi said.

TASS asked about the negotiations on Tehran's nuclear program. "A lot of disagreements were resolved. It is encouraging that the sides are determined to continue the negotiations. Of course, Iran has the right to its nuclear program, which it insists. And the opposite side, which came to the conclusion that Iran has it, takes exactly this position in the negotiations," Kharrazi said.

Interfax asked the former minister to comment on Iran's transition to the use of the ruble in the implementation of the external accounts. "This is a very important step that Iran and Russia should take. There is no other way to get rid of the dominance of the dollar in trade exchanges. Fortunately, other countries have generated interest in order to maintain turnover in local currency. Our experts are very serious reflecting on this matter. Of course, Iran would welcome such a decision in trading volumes," Kamal Kharrazi concluded.
