Caspian security agreement to be prepared in nearest future

Ministers of foreign affairs and experts of Caspian countries have made progress in working on a project for cooperation in providing security in the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Khalaf Khalafov said, Trend reports.


He said that their work is based on mutual respect and trust. The project will be prepared in the near future. The agreement will contribute to determining the legal status of the Caspian.


Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Ryabkov noted that the progress in Caspian security is partly due to the chairman of the meeting, Khalaf Khalafov, and his team.

Muhammed Akhundzade, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, the special presidential representative for the Caspian, noted that the sides took a big step compared with the previous meetings. He said that Iran hopes that the sides will reach an agreement prior to the summit in November.


Kazakh representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Zulphiya Amanzholova said that the meeting will permit the sides to agree on the document text in the near future.


Khalafov said that if they prepare the project before mid November it may be scheduled for discussions on November 18 in Baku.
