Senator Chernyshev discusses domestic tourism and topical problems of the Caucasus

Chernyshev emphasized that the popularization of Caucasian resorts required solutions to a set of problems.
He noted that mass media reports have created an association of the Caucasus with counter-terrorism operations, discouraging tourism. The senator believes that the media should pay more attention to development in the Caucasus. He added that the Caucasus had settlements where not a single crime had happened for a year.
Chernyshev emphasized that the tourism sector of the region needed skilled staff, a problem common to other regions too. The official added that services in Pyatigorsk were very far from European or Turkish standards. Stimulating tourists to visit resorts several times is one of the main objectives of the sector.
Thirdly, according to Chernyshev, Caucasian resorts need better transport. Improved access to the region would boost the quality of local resorts, in his opinion. Business would have incentives to invest and develop recreation, accommodation and services. Concerning management, the senator said that the high quality of services provided by volunteers in Sochi during the Olympic Games made a steep fall after they had returned back home.
Chernyshev admitted that he was planning to visit Kavkazskiye Mineralniye Vody with his grandchildren, and see historic places. He noted that Russian citizens should be motivated to travel around the country. The population needs a more patriotic upbringing.
