Sevastopol to hold direct elections for governor

 

Lawmakers of Sevastopol have began work on a bill on direct governor elections, as stated by Victor Posmetny, the head of a temporary commission of the legislative assembly, RIA Novosti reports.As a territory of Ukraine, Sevastopol had governors appointed by the president of Ukraine. Incumbent Governor Sergey Menyaylo was confirmed in office by the Sevastopol legislative structure. His candidature was introduced by Russian President Vladimir Putin.The bill on direct governor elections will need at least two thirds of votes of the 24 lawmakers for passing.
