Failed assassin gets almost 12 years of jail for plotting against Turkish president
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaFerhat Yildiz has been sentenced to 11 years and 8 months of jail for plotting the assassination of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (the then prime minister) in May 2014, RIA Novosti reports.
Yildiz was planning to shoot Erdogan with an improvised pistol in the Sultangazi District of Istanbul during an event of the ruling Justice and Development Party. His gun did not shoot when he approached the prime minister and pulled the trigger.
Prosecutors had demanded 20 years of imprisonment for Ferhat Yildiz.
