Israel celebrates 67th Independence DayIsrael began celebrating its 67th year of independence Wednesday night with a torch-lighting ceremony that marked the transition from the mourning of Memorial Day to the festivities of Independence Day."Independence Day is an occasion for genuine celebration. Jews celebrate the rebirth of our national freedom in our historic homeland, the Land of Israel," RIA Novosti cited congratulatory message of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu."We also celebrate Israel's many achievements. We've integrated into our society immigrants from all four corners of the earth. We've successfully defended our freedom against attacks by hostile neighbor. We've literally made the desert bloom, building a vibrant and dynamic high-tech economy. We've built a robust and healthy democracy, where freedom is sacrosanc," he continued.
