The death toll has risen to eleven after flooding in Russia's southern Krasnodar Territory, a spokesman for the local administration said on Saturday, RIA Novosti reports.

Torrential rains in mountainous areas have caused rivers to overflow, flooding 21 villages. About 300 people, including 70 children, have been evacuated. The local authorities have imposed a state of emergency in the area.

The situation in the flooded area has stabilized and people are currently returning to their homes.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev ordered Regional Development Minister Viktor Basargin to assess the damage caused by the flooding and take measures to help those affected.

Krasnodar Territory governor Alexander Tkachev said the flood damage will amount to several hundred million rubles and pledged to pay compensation and eliminate the consequences of the disaster as soon as possible.
