Maya Plisetskaya has passed away

Sad news from Germany: at the age of 90, Maya Plisetskaya, the renowned ballerina, has passed away.

This was announced by Vladimir Urin, General Director of the Bolshoi Theatre, where the prima ballerina worked the most part of her career, RIA Novosti reports.

Maya Plisetskaya was born in 1925. In 1943 she graduated from the Moscow Ballet School and joined the Bolshoi Theater, where she became a world-famous ballerina. After leaving the stage at the age of 65, she gave master classes and participated in various concerts. The last years of her life she spent in Germany.

Maya Plisetskaya was awarded the title of the Hero of Socialist Labour and People's Artist of the USSR, the Order of Merit, and numerous awards around the world.
