Lavrov and Kerry to talk in Sochi on Ukraine and Iran

US State Secretary John Kerry will visit Sochi on May 12, where he will meet with President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.


"The agenda of tomorrow's talks is the situation in Ukraine, Yemen, Syria and Iran. We have never closed from conversations on this subject, on the contrary, we are conducting a very active dialogue on these issues," RIA Novosti cited a diplomatic source.


As the US State Department reported today, Kerry will visit Sochi on May 12, where he will be received by Russian leader Vladimir Putin  and will meet with Sergey Lavrov. "This trip is part of our ongoing effort to maintain direct lines of communication with senior Russian officials and to ensure U.S. views are clearly conveyed," the State Department said.

 

Russia is "open for cooperation with the US on the basis of equality, non-interference in internal affairs, and taking Russian interests into account without attempts to pressure us,“ TASS cited the Russian Ministry's statement.On May 8, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry held a telephone conversation on the initiative of the American side.The two sides agreed to hold a meeting to discuss possible joint actions of Russia and the United States to resolve the various conflicts. In addition, Kerry conveyed congratulations on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, noting the tremendous contribution of the Russian and other peoples of the Soviet Union in the defeat of fascism.The presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the whole next week Vladimir Putin will work in Sochi.
