'The History of the Great Purge in Azerbaijan', a book by Eldar Ismailov (published by ROSSPEN), has been presented at MGIMO. The late author Eldar Ismailov wrote 10 monographs and over 100 articles about Azerbaijan and Russia. In his book, he presented a deep analysis of life in the Azerbaijan SSR in 1936-1938 based on documents of Azerbaijani and Russian archives.

Ismailov does not consider the Great Purge a campaign against Azerbaijanis, it was a campaign against people of all nationalities and religions.

Nigyar Akhundova, an advisor on humanitarian issues at the Azerbaijani embassy in Russia, said that the day was merry for the presentation of the book and sad for the absence of its author.

Vugar Imamaliyev, an advisor to the Azerbaijani embassy in Russia, noted that he had been lucky to collaborate with Ismailov when working on a joint Stalin-related project for two years.

Concerning the book itself, Akhundova emphasized its significance in the formation of a general picture of the time, a panoramic view of Stalin's terror. Imamaliyev said that the events of 1937 could not be viewed through the prism of the 21st century. He thanked Imamaliyev for creating the book as a heritage.
