The NSDC Secretary of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov allows the possibility of accommodating defense system components on the territory of the country. "I do not rule out that to defend ourselves from nuclear threat we will have to hold consultations on deploying missile defense system components on Ukrainian territory," RIA Novosti cited him as saying.

He also urged the West to block Russian ships’ passage through the Bosphorus Straits and to disconnect Russia from the automated SWIFT payment system.

The editor-in-chief of 'Military-Industrial Courier' and the magazine 'Aerospace Defense', Michael Khodarenok, told a correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza that it cannot be ruled out that Ukraine will eventually become a base for missile defense. According to his estimates, procedures and work on missile defense in Ukraine will stretch for a decade.

"It is a question of at least ten years. That is, even if a political decision will be taken first and then certain work will be started, the  period of readiness is not less than 10 years, and a lot can change over the years," the expert pointed out.

According to the deputy head of the Editorial Council of Vestnik Kavkaza, the Director General of the Institute for Caspian Cooperation, Sergey Mikheyev, the deployment of a missile defense is a part of the complex US pressure on Russia. "The pressure can be both economic, and political, and military. We have economic and political problems due to Ukraine. There is a strong possibility that there will be military problems too," Mikheyev said.

The chief editor of 'National Defense' magazine, Igor Korotchenko, in his turn, expressed confidence that the United States will refrain from doing this, "otherwise Russia's reaction will be so tough that it will cool Obama and other people who take such decisions," Korotchenko said.

"Ukraine is a bankrupt country, a country which has no pants in the present and no prospects in the future with the current political regime. Turchinov's statement is anti-Russian and dangerous, because his proposal could bring the world to the threshold of a new world war," Igor Korochenko concluded.
