Syrian opposition holds consultations in Astana

Three-day consultations of the representatives of the Syrian opposition have started in Astana.


"The negotiations of representatives of the Syrian opposition which will last till May 27 of the current year were started in Astana," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan stated, adding that the negotiations will take place behind closed doors.Kazakhstan's ambassador to Iran will be the moderator of the consultations, the secretary of the National Democratic Action Society, Mais el Kreidi said. "This is very positive, because Iran plays an important role in resolving the Syrian issue," RIA Novosti cited her as saying.Kazakhstan hopes for further continuation and productive completion of negotiations between Syrians and other interested parties as part of the Geneva process on settlement of the conflict in Syria and recognizes that the forthcoming consultations in Astana will be additional help for the success of the negotiations in Geneva, the Press Service of the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan said.
