Presidential term can be extended in Turkmenistan

The chairperson of the Majlis, Akja Nurberdiyeva, said that a provision on extending the term of office of the country’s president from five to seven years could be included into Turkmenistan’s constitution.

The head of state, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, drew attention to the need to study the incoming proposals. According to him, the proposals should be considered taking into account international law, the experience of foreign countries and the national peculiarities of the Turkmen people.
