Mourning over Demirel's death declared in Turkey

A three-day mourning was declared in Turkey over the death of Turkey’s ninth president Suleyman Demirel, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said.


Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu paid tribute to Demirel. "Suleyman Demirel, who has contributed greatly to the development process of our country and has left deep marks in Turkey's politics is one of the most important figures of our political history," RIA Novosti cited the statement of the president.


Demirel died at a hospital in Ankara from heart failure, the Anadolu news agency reports.
