16 sets of medals to be played for on seventh day of First European Games

Today in Baku the seventh day of the European Games has started, during which competitions will be held in sports gymnastics, freestyle wrestling, taekwondo, boxing, shooting, archery, volleyball, beach volleyball, diving, road cycling, table tennis and water polo.


Today the athletes will contend for 16 sets of medals: two sets in archery (among men and women), two in road cycling (among men and women), two in diving (among men and women), two in sports gymnastics (all-round competition among men and women), two in shooting (50m rifle and trap), two in archery (among men and women), two in taekwondo (up to 80kg and up to 67kg among women) and four sets in freestyle wrestling (in the categories up to 61kg, 70kg, 86kg, 125kg).


Oleg Stepko will represent Azerbaijan in the men's sports gymnastics individual all-round, who gained 88,231 points in qualifications. Russia will be represented by Nikita Ignatyev, who gained 89,065 points in qualifications. Their main opponent is Oleg Vernyaev from Ukraine with the highest qualifying score of 91,532 points.


Russian gymnasts have taken all three top lines in the women's all-round, however the rules of the country allow only one competitor from each country in the discipline, so Aliya Mustafina (58,865 points in qualifications) will represent Russia. From Azerbaijan Marina Nekrasov will proceed to the all-round finals (50,532 points in qualifications). 


Freestyle wrestling will be represented by Azerbaijani Haji Aliyev (up to 61 kg), Ruslan Dibirgadzhiev (up to 70 kg), Nurmaqomed Qadjiyev (up to 86kg) and Jamaladdin Magomedov (up to 125kg), Russians Alexander Bogomoev (up to 61kg), Mahammadrasul Gazimagomedov (up to 70kg), Abdul Sadullayev (up to 86kg) and Khadzhimurat Gatsalov (up to 125kg). Armenians Volodya Frangulyan (up to 61kg), Musa Murtazaliev (up to 86kg) and Levan Berianidze (up to 125kg), Georgians Beka Lomtadze (up to 61kg), Davit Tlashadze (up to 70kg), Sandro Aminashvili (up to 86kg) and Geno Petriashvili (up to 125kg) will compete with them.


In the taekwondo competitions Azerbaijan will be represented by Milad Beigi Harchegani and Farida Azizova, and Russia by Albert Gaun and Anastasia Baryshnikova.
