Why did fans boo referees at Rhythmic Gymnastics in Baku?
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaToday an unpleasant incident of biased refereeing spoiled the sporting festival at the First European Games. Referees’ injustice was committed against the Azerbaijani athlete Marina Durunde during the final stage in the hoop exercise in rhythmic gymnastics.
The gymnast performed perfectly, without any noticeable errors or corrections, but the referees, headed by the Technical Committee head on rhythmic gymnastics, Heide Bruneder, had another opinion, considering the complexity of the performance as 8.8 points, and the performance as 9 points. The total was 17.8 points. It allowed Durunde to take only 5th place.
It was an obvious bias against the gymnast. The fans began whistling when Bruneder appeared in the arena for the awards ceremony.
Unfortunately, throughout the competition the referees did not show impartiality to the artistic gymnasts of Azerbaijan and gave them biased marks.
