US approves extension of anti-Russian sanctions

Spokesman of the US State Department John Kirby said today that Washington approved the extension by the EU of anti-Russian sanctions until January 31, 2016, Interfax reports.


White House Spokeman Josh Earnest noted that the EU demonstrated a consolidated approach to Russia in the context of the crisis in Ukraine. He added that the sanctions will force Russian President Vladimir Putin to respect international law.


Earnest emphasized that US President Barack Obama discussed joint efforts against Russia at the G7 Summit in the Bavarian Alps.
