Vladimir Jabarov, deputy head of Russia's Federation Council Committee for International Affairs, has expressed hope that the protests over growing power bills in Armenia will not turn into a revolution, Radio RSN reports.

Jabarov worries that extremists may take advantage of the situation.

The police of Armenia cracked down on protesters in the center of Yerevan. The demonstrators were pushed out of Marshal Bagramyan Avenue with water cannon. They refuse to pay the higher electricity prices which will be imposed on August 1.
