The majority of Russians (87%) supported the extension of the ban on the import of products from the European Union, the USA, Australia, Canada and Norway to Russia, according to poll results from the Fund of Public Opinion (FOM) released today.

The majority (38%) of those who agree with the extension of a product embargo consider it as a response to sanctions against Russia, 27% see it as the need to support the domestic producer, 10% described Russian products as more useful than imported ones.

Academician, member of the Academic Council of RANHiGS and Doctor of Economic Sciences Elmira Krylatyh told Vestnik Kavkaza that such a high percentage of Russians supporting the product embargo on foreign suppliers indicates that the population of our country sees a lot of benefit in the sanctions against Russia, and in our response to them.

"Let's consider this: the embargo is enforced, but temporary, and it is necessary to use the allotted time with a mind to our own production, which will be more competitive, and will maybe even export its products to other markets: we have such prerequisites," Elmira Krylatykh summed up.
