Turkey celebrates Republic Day

Turkey is celebrating the Day of Republic, the Turkish Republic (Cumhuriyet Turkiye) was proclaimed in 1923. On that day the Constitution of Turkey had amendments introduced and Turkey ceased to be the Ottoman Empire, becoming a republic.

The celebrations started yesterday. The country will have a minute of silence to commemorate the fighters for freedom and independence of Turkey.
