Russia to continue cooperating with USA in Afghan drug fight

Russia is interested in further cooperation with the USA in closing
down drug laboratories in Afghan provinces, head of the Federal
Service for Drug Trafficking Control Victor Ivanov said at a
press-conference at RIA Novosti on Friday.

Russia and the USA held a joint counter-drug operation in
Afghanistan's province of Nangarkhar on October 28. Four drug
laboratories and over 900kg of heroin were destroyed.

Ivanov said that they also have information about drug laboratories in
Badakhshan, Gilmendu (where 65% of Afghan opium poppy is grown).
He noted that over 400 drug laboratories are operating in Badakhshan.
Ivanov noted the importance of destroying drug plantations as well as
laboratories.
