Vakhtang Gomelauri may head Georgian State Security Service

The Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili presented the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Vakhtang Gomelauri, as a candidate for the post of head of the state security service.

"Today, I introduce the head of the state security service Vakhtang Gomelauri," the Prime Minister said at the briefing. Gomelauri, in his turn, thanked him for his trust. "I thank the Prime Minister for the confidence, now I need the support of the parliamentary majority," he said.

Last week, President Giorgi Margvelashvili signed a bill on the separation of the State Security Service from the Interior Ministry. It will become an independent structure from August 1, RIA Novosti reports.
