Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Vakhtang Gomelauri will head the State Security Service

The current Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Vakhtang Gomelauri, will lead a new state structure – the State Security Service of the country. 83 deputies out of 148 voted for his appointment today.

The Georgian State Security Service will be independent from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and will begin its work from August 1. The new structure will fight terrorism, international organized crime, and protect Georgia's state security, territorial integrity and military potential from the illegal actions of foreign intelligence agencies, RIA Novosti reported.
