Eleven new federal state parks and ten national parks will be created
in Russia over the next ten years and the territory of another ten
nature reserves and two national parks will be greatly expanded,
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin told a meeting on the
development of the federal system of specially protected natural
areas, RIA Novosti reports.

The Prime Minister noted that the problem of reserves and national
parks must be addressed “in close contact with the public and with
non-governmental environmental organizations.”

”The effectiveness of this interaction is obvious and proven. A good
example here is the joint work in preparation for the Winter Games in
Sochi in 2014. I hope that this cooperation will continue in the
future,” - said the head of the cabinet.

At the moment, Russia has 102 Federal reserves. In 2010, the Utrish
reserve was formed in Krasnodar region.

”In total we have about 12,000 different environmental zones: federal
and regional. They occupy over 200 million hectares, which is more
than 11% of the territory of the Russian Federation,” - said the prime
minister.
