A State Duma Deputy from the Communist Party, Vadim Solovyov, has proposed preparing a draft law for restaurants, not specializing in national cuisine, to have at least 50% of traditional Russian cuisine on their menu.

"We must pay more attention to the national elements of our culture," Izvestia cited Solovyov as saying.

Solovyov said that the abundance of restaurants with European cuisine and American fast food in Russia adversely affects the prestige of the country.
