Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev said at a meeting with Prime Minister Karim Massimov and the head of the presidential administration Nurlan Nigmatulin that the Kazakh authorities will not allow an economic slowdown and living standards to decline.
"Deteriorating market conditions, weak state budget and declining prices for our main export commodities urge us to introduce spending cuts nationwide. These measures should be stipulated in next year's budget. Irrespective of any obstacles, we should not allow for an economic slowdown to happen and the living standards of our citizens to decline. It is necessary to meet all the social commitments to the population. We have to get through these difficult times," KaazTAG cited Nursultan Nazarbayev as saying.
The president also discussed issues related to the organization of EXPO-2017 in Astana and upcoming anniversaries, including the 550th anniversary of the Kazakh Khanate, the 20th anniversary of the Constitution of Kazakhstan and a number of other international events.
