Soviet regime expert Robert Conquest dies at 98

The British-born historian and author of more than 20 books on Soviet history, Robert Conquest, has passed away aged 98.

Conquest was a Hoover Institute senior research fellow emeritus at Stanford University. According to his wife, pneumonia was the cause of his death. 

His book 'The Great Terror: Stalin's Purge of the Thirties', published in 1968, remains one of the most influential studies of Soviet history.
