The head of Karachay-Cherkessia has instructed the local authorities
to proceed immediately to repair the places of worship which were
damaged by fire on the night of the 1st of November, the press service
of the Karachay-Cherkessia administration has announced, according to
Yuga.

Earlier in the morning on the 1st of November unknown arsonists set
fire to two Orthodox and one Baptist church in the village of
Ordzhonikidze and in the city of Karachayevsk in the Karachay region
of Karachay-Cherkessia. As a result, one of the Orthodox churches
burned to the ground. The archbishop of Stavropol and Vladikavkaz,
Feofan, believes that the burning of two Orthodox churches in
Karachay-Cherkessia is aimed at inciting ethnic and religious strife.

"The criminals who committed the arson of churches cannot be
considered true believers. For many centuries there were no
inter-faith clashes in Karachay-Cherkessia. The inhabitants of our
republic do respect each other and respect the faith that lives in the
heart of his or her neighbour," Boris Yebzeyev said.

He added that finding the culprits is a debt of honor for the
law-enforcement agencies.
