Caspian states to discuss preparations for November summit on regional security in Baku

The third Summit of the heads of the Caspian states on the security of
the Caspian Sea will take place on the 18th of November 2010 in Baku.
The deputy foreign ministers of the Caspian countries will discuss the
preparations for the upcoming summit in Baku from the 3rd to the 4th
of November.

The purpose of the visit is the participation in the fourth meeting of
the deputy heads of the foreign ministries of the five Caspian
countries. The amendments to the Agreement on Security Cooperation in
the Caspian Sea will be the main topic of the talks.

In November 2003 the Caspian states signed the Framework Convention
for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea.

In July 1998 Russia and Kazakhstan signed an agreement on the
delimitation of the northern Caspian Sea, in order to exercise
sovereign rights for subsoil use, and in May 2002 the Protocol to the
agreement was signed.

On the 29th of November 2001 and the 27th of February 2003 an
agreement between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan on the delimitation of the
Caspian Sea and the Protocol thereto were signed.

Also, on the 14th of May 2003 Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Russia signed
an agreement on the junction point of the delimitation of the
contiguous sections of the Caspian Sea.
