Moscow and Tehran: to the future without obstacles

Today Moscow held the first since the conclusion of a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue negotiations between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Russia and Iran, Sergey Lavrov and Mohammad Javad Zarif. On their results, diplomats held a joint press conference at which they stressed the importance of strengthening the capacity of Russian-Iranian contacts at all levels with regard to the impending suspension and cancellation of sanctions against Tehran.

Zarif noted, that cancellation of sanctions against Iran will be of particular importance for the bilateral cooperation. "With the removal of sanctions, all barriers for the comprehensive, enhanced cooperation between Russia and Iran are removed. Iran and Russia are not only neighbors, we have a very long history of trade and economic, oil cooperation. Those agreements, that were between Iran and Russia, in this regard, today will face fewer barriers ", - he explained.

At the same time, Moscow expects that the plan for the settlement of the Iranian nuclear program will start to operate in coming weeks. "We once again expressed support for the successful conclusion of negotiations on the settlement of the situation around the Iranian nuclear program. We are pleased with the adoption of a joint comprehensive plan of actions and hope that this plan, as it is provided by approved UN Security Council resolution, will come into force in coming weeks, "- Russian minister pointed out.

As part of the development of trade relations between the countries Foreign Ministers agreed that the next meeting of a joint intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation will be held in autumn, Lavrov told. "Particular attention was paid to the development of trade and economic relations. We agreed to hold another meeting of a joint intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation this fall, probably in October", - Minister told.

"This is an important instrument, according to Iran and the Russian Federation, which helps to coordinate our common approach to the deepening of economic, investment and other relations", - head of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted.

Head of the Caucasus Department of the CIS Institute, Vladimir Yevseyev, in conversation with correspondent Vestnik Kavkaza firstly noted, that Zarif words about the influence of conclusion of the nuclear deal on the Russian-Iranian military contacts can indicate plans to supply Iran with anti-aircraft missile systems S-300, in particular in the form of "Antey-2500", even before the implementation of a comprehensive agreement before the end of October.
