Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in a television program has approved Russia's position to follow all the international conventions on the protection of refugees.

"Russia fulfills all its obligations under the international conventions. We receive everyone who corresponds to the category of refugees. We receive and will do this in the Russian Federation,’’ he added.

The Minister stressed that Russia sometimes goes beyond traditional aid, as now there are about 1 million refugees from Ukraine in Russia. Lavrov also added that they were all given adequate assistance and now about 50% of Ukrainian refugees want to obtain Russian citizenship, or permanent status in the country.

The foreign minister said that there are also refugees from the East in Russia, but not a very large number. They left all the war zone at the beginning of the conflict, Tass reports.
