Russia to mark 1000 days before start of 2018 FIFA World Cup

Red Square will host events today as part of a project marking 1000 days before the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Vladimir Putin will welcome guests and participants in a TV link-up. 

The celebrations, especially the opening of the countdown to the 2018 World Cup, will be attended by the First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov, the chairman of the organizing committee Russia-2018 and Sports Minister of the Russian Federation Vitaly Mutko, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and the General Director of the Russia-2018 organizing committee Alexei Sorokin.

World football stars Italian Gianluca Zambrotta, Spaniard Fernando Hierro, German Lothar Matthaus and the former captain of the Russian team, Alexei Smertin, will be the honored guests.
