Azerbaijan is looked upon as the primary supplier of Babucco gas
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe European Union hopes, that by the end of the year it will have an agreement on Nabucco pipeline construction, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Aliyev said on a meeting with European Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger today in Baku, Trend reports.
According to Oettinger, he primary role in Nabucco pipeline gas supplies should go to Azerbaijan, which can provide the pipeline with a large part of efficiency.
Turkmenistan should be the second supplier of Nabucco pipeline. According to Oettinger, within his meeting with Turkmenistan authorities, Ashkhabad expressed it’s readiness to provide the necessary supplies for the pipeline’s additional loading.
Iran and Iraq are not considered Nabucco’s third and fourth suppliers. Iran is an importer of gas at the moment and “I believe, Iran will not be able to be a gas exporter in the near future”, the European Commissioner said. Another reason why these two countries are not considered Nabucco suppliers is the complicated political situation in both Iran and Iraq.
